Agent Don Yee lands Adidas as sponsor…

By: Jarrett Bell, USA TODAY SPORTS--Feb. 28, 2018
INDIANAPOLIS – Prominent sports agent Don Yee has secured a major sponsor that advances his plan to launch an alternative developmental football league with Adidas signing on as founding partner of Pacific Pro Football.

Yee wants to begin the league in the summer of 2019 with four teams based in Southern California.

“We’re honored to have one of the world’s greatest brands and iconic companies validating the concept,” Yee, CEO of Pacific Pro Football, told USA TODAY Sports on Wednesday. “(But) we still have a lot of work to do.”

It’s noteworthy that the deal was announced as hundreds of college prospects converge for the NFL scouting combine, a significant marker on the traditional path to pro football.

If Yee’s league comes to fruition, such players in the future would have the option of bypassing the college game – and get paid – for the three years after high school until they are eligible for the NFL. In other words, the vision is to expand the NFL’s feeder system, which traditionally has been almost exclusively the domain of the NCAA.
